Random York

Buildings remind me of how insignificant we are to them, but yet we are the ones that created them. Hmmm.

Simple times.

Egg

One of the best breakfast/brunch/lunch places I've ever been to in my whole life is Egg in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  Apparently this place is a legend in the area, beating out every other similar types of places by far in terms of the online reviews from yelp and urbanspoon.   While their official online name is Pig and Egg, the simpler Egg is what they use in reality.  The first thing that comes into mind when I stepped into the place was a library that serves breakfast and coffee.  It was a good thing we went here on the weekday where the wait to get it wasn't so bad.  It would be a different story if we went during the weekend, some reviewers online said they waited up to an hour.  Ay!!!

The atmosphere of the place is great and the type of people that came to eat here are my type of people; borderline hippies, they would fit perfectly in Portland. The waiters are friendly and the place is very cozy. The room itself in narrow and long with an awesome shelving system along the back wall with some books and bottles.  I would like to probably decor my office like this someday.  Other than that, the place has a very organic feel also with natural wood tables and chairs.  I wouldn't mind living here, maybe next time I'll just bring a sleeping bag and camp out in the middle of their business hour.

The coffee was also very good, it was probably one of the best coffee I've ever had and I wanted to ask what kind of coffee they served but keep forgetting to ask. I don't know if it was because it was served in a French press that made the coffee taste good or if it was the ratio with the cream and sugar that made it good. But the point was that it was awesome, that one cup made my day and experience so much better. This is another reason why I want to live in this place.

And finally to the main dish that we had. Nana ordered the Fried Chicken that came with biscuit and collard greens. The chicken is awesome, it had that natural brown crispy fried skin taste that makes chicken so goodelicious.

I ordered the Eggs Rothko which was an over easy egg served with cheese on top of bread.  This dish is what makes Egg very famous and I agree with the reviews.  The taste of the egg with the toasted bread is just perfect.  If I could, I would eat this for breakfast everyday.  The dish came with a ball of hash brown, tomatoes, and bacon.  Yum!!!

Oh Egg, I wish you would open in Portland and make my life easier.

Willamsburg, Brklyn

One of the coolest areas we went to in New York was the Williamsburg area in Brooklyn. This area is screaming with street artwork, coffee shops, cafes, and vintage stores.  As a photographer, places like Williamsburg is just a great place to shoot around in and practice my craft.  You don't have to search for interesting things to take pictures of because they are everywhere.

This display was a part of a cool store called Dijital Fix.  They had cool random house decor items, lots of dj gear, posters, ahhhhh, just a cool store.

Meme Antenna is another cool store.  The owners are a Japanese couple with an awesome taste in cool items.  The first thing I noticed when I walked in the store was the Japanese jazz music.  It was great, the music really set the mood for me to buy things from there store.

This tile art reminds me of PacMan.

The bookstores in Williamsburg are great. Many good selection of art and various books.

I don't know what this is, but it just looks cool.

One thing I noticed was that every cafe/coffee shop I passed by was always full of people in it. Maybe that's the thing to do in Williamsburg, live in a coffee shop.

Cool fixture.

MIMA Building & Fronts

While in New York, we had a chance to explore MIMA which is short for the Meat Packing District.  The abbreviation doesn't add up with meat packing but it's cool anyways.  Apparently the area has evolved to be a trendy area full of shops and local eateries from the historical meat port/industry; hence the name meat packing.  Anyways, the thing that caught my eye was the presence of new buildings incorporated into the traditional buildings and lots of cool store fronts.  This place kind of reminds me of the Pearl in Portland.  I would've love to spend a bit more time here.

The Times

Wow, just an amazing place. I could never get bored of this place. Some of my favorite memories of New York is probably here in Times Square. Only in New York.

Union Square Transit

This building is awesome.  It reminds me of Massive Dynamic from Fringe.  Unfortunately it's not the building that they use for their HQ.  Anyways, union square is like a transit area for us because we passed this one block union square about seven times in about two days.  Fortunately I was able to get a couple good shots around this area.

East Villagers

On the set of East Villagers.
Look at the velcro on my shoe!!
Shop hopping for 5 hours a day.
I love this store front. Amazing and simple.

East Village Ops

East Village.  I wish you were here in Portland.

 Love the bicycle handles.
 24 hour Pho!!! Sweet.
The "Others" are actually hippies hiding in East Village playing live guitar shows after supper.
We saw this dog sleeping in the middle of the East Village flea market.

Another Dog Day

Hi everyone. This is Keila signing in. I ate too much food today, it's 70 degrees in the house and my humans are talking too much. So I decided that I'm just going to lay on the floor again. What a good day!!! Woof.

I Heart The Flea

I heart the flea. Whoever put the signs up had me at I.
There was a cupcake vendor selling all sorts of cool looking and edible cupcakes. I asked the owner which cupcake was the weirdest and she pointed to the bacon cupcake. It was really good and gone in two seconds.

Oh vintage glasses, if you were cheaper I would buy one.
That's a mean looking vault door. First time I've seen one up close.
There is something about Ball jars that attract me to them.
I dig the glasses!!!
